The brothers charged for the murder of media personality Christine Hewitt-Gordon have been freed.
The woman’s husband David Gordon and his brother Wordsworth Gordon were charged for the 2006 murder.
After the crown closed its case in the St Catherine Circuit Court this morning, defence lawyers Michael Deans and Pierre Rogers told the judge that they had a no case submission to make.
The judge then called on the prosecutor to indicate if the elements for the offence of murder were established.
The prosecutors conceded that it had not established the elements of murder based on the evidence.
Justice Leighton Pusey then directed the 12-member jury return a formal verdict of not guilty, freeing the men.
The brothers were charged in 2009, three years after the Hewitt’s burnt remains were found in a Toyota Townace car along the Freedom Main Road near Mount Industry district St Catherine.
Yesterday a witness told the court that the scene of the murder was recorded at Shenton district, which is about 12 miles from where the body was found along the Freedom Main Road.
