MAY PEN, Clarendon:
A former councillor of the Clarendon Parish Council is among four people arrested in connection with the illegal trading of gas oil in the community of Chatteau.
The May Pen police say a taxi driver and two others were also arrested and heavy duty tires, dry cell batteries and several five-gallon bottles filled with gas oil seized.
According to the police, the trunk of the taxi was loaded with gas oil.
The police say the premises of the former councillor were searched and he is expected to be questioned this week in the presence of his lawyer.
In the meantime, the police are advising members of the public not to purchase petroleum products from unauthorised dealers because they are liable to be charged.
