The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has called in the fraud squad as it investigates the improper and illegal use of bus tickets.
Marketing and Communications Manager Clinton Clarke says the fraud involves cases of bogus tickets, re-used tickets, the issuing of concession tickets to adult commuters and larceny of company cash.
He notes that the use of fraudulent tickets takes place particularly on Portmore routes, in St Catherine.
Clarke says the state-run bus company has already met with investigators from the Fraud Squad and handed over case files of four investigations.
He says several pieces of documents as well as video recordings from bus cameras were handed over to the police during a meeting earlier today.
He says the company is also pursuing internally, other reports of irregularities which have been brought to its attention by its Revenue Monitors.
Clarke is seeking passenger cooperation in ensuring that proper ticket issuing procedures are observed on JUTC buses at all times.
He says the company intends to expedite the implementation of points of sale for SmartCards so passengers may make electronic payments.
