Opposition Member of Parliament, Pearnel Charles, says he is not convinced Jamaican legislators are approaching the matter of the removal of the economic blockade against Cuba with enough seriousness.

He was speaking today as the parliament debated a motion to have the embargo placed on Cuba by the United States removed.
Charles expressed frustration at seeing the resolution again before the House of Representatives.
He said while he supported the resolution, it was not enough and more concrete steps needed to be taken by the Caribbean region to have the embargo lifted.
Leader of government business in the House, Phillip Paulwell, defended the motion saying it is a symbol of solidarity and means a lot to Cubans.
Industry and Commerce minister, Anthony Hylton, who brought the motion to Parliament, noted that it was in Jamaica’s interest to have the embargo lifted.
He noted that Jamaica and other countries could face hefty fines for doing business with Cuba.
