The update is to be given in a statement to parliament.
The environmental study, which was commissioned by the Port Authority of Jamaica, was completed recently and submitted to Cabinet for discussion.
Chinese investors have eyed lands and the surrounding areas at Goat Island as the site for the construction of the port which is to be part of the country's logistics hub project.
The government has said the proposed US$1.5 billion investment would represent a significant milestone in Jamaica’s development agenda.
However, environmentalists and other interest groups have objected to the construction of the hub at the Goat Islands.
They say the construction of the hub would irrevocably displace marine life and the livelihood of fisherfolk.
And they further note that it would be illegal to disturb the Goat Islands and surrounding areas as they are protected under the law.
