An arbitration panel referred to as a Special Advisory Committee has been established to examine financial and governance issues at the University of Technology (UTech).
The announcement was made by Education Minister Ronald Thwaites today.
His intervention was sought last month in a dispute between the academic staff at the institution and administrators.
The union which represents staff members has said it has no confidence in administrators.
The education ministry says the panel was appointed by the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission.
The Special Advisory Committee is headed by Chairman of the Sugar Industry Authority Ambassador, Derrick Heaven, and includes former Financial Secretary, Shirley Tyndale, Vice-president Planning and Operations at UTech, Dr Kofi Nkrumah Young; and President of the Academic Staff Association, Olabusola Akinladejo.
Before setting up the panel, the education minister had asked the Ministry of Finance and the Auditor General to review issues related to governance and financial management that had been brought to the Ministry’s attention.
