Shrewbury murder trial transferred to Trelawny

The trial of the two policemen charged with the murder of 28-year-old fire-fighter Andrew Brydson, 24-year-old Triston Brydson, and their 38-year-old cousin, Kingsley Green in Shrewsbury,Westmoreland, has been transferred to the Trelawny Circuit Court.
Supreme Court Judge Paulette Williams granted an application for a change of venue when the men appeared in the Westmoreland Circuit Court yesterday.
Constables Kenroy Hines and Damane Campbell are on bail and their case will be mentioned on November 11 in the Trelawny Circuit Court.
When the policemen appeared in court last month, their lawyer Peter Champagnie expressed concerns about the hostility which members of the public had displayed towards the men while they were in the precincts of the court.
Champagnie said then that the men would not get a fair trial in the parish.
In response to Champagnie's concerns, the prosecution yesterday applied for a change of venue to Kingston.
However, Justice Williams said she was sending the case for trial in the Trelawny Circuit Court.
The judge said that it was not likely that the policemen would get an early trial in Kingston because of the large number of cases on the list at the Home Circuit Court.
The Crown is alleging that the men were unarmed when they were fatally shot on March 15.
The police reported that the men were killed in a shoot-out but angry residents have maintained that the men were killed in cold blood.
