Mountain View still tense, rival gangs trading shots
2013-10-30 12:43:22 | (0 Comments)
The police say the Mountain View area of St Andrew remains tense as gunmen from rival gangs continue to trade shots with each other from high powered weapons.
However, they say they are maintaining a presence in the area.
There has been an upsurge of violence in the Mountain View area in recent days and on Monday a police operation in the area resulted in the shooting of a 19-year-old on Jarrett Lane, Mountain View Avenue.
The police say they were responding to heavy gunfire involving rival gangs when they came under fire from both gangs.
They say this triggered a shootout and that is when the teenager was hit.
However, residents later blocked the road in condemnation of the fatal shooting.
The Police say community members who have information contradicting the account given by the police should make a report to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
In the meantime, the police say they are cooperating fully with INDECOM.
They also say the police personnel who were involved in the shooting have been removed from frontline duty to facilitate the investigation.
