NewsHenry says no to taxi fare increase2009-04-29 18:36:32 | (0 Comments)
Transport Minister Mike Henry has indicated that taxi operators will not be granted a fare increase.
The operators have been insisting that they will have to raise fares because of the added $8.75, which took effect on Monday. However, Mr. Henry said there is no need for a fare increase at this time because the cost to operate a taxi was taken into account when the added gas tax was proposed. According to Mr. Henry, fuel prices are lower now than they were when taxi operators were granted an increase in June last year. Mr. Henry said a committee has been set up to monitor the Road Maintenance Fund. This year, 20 per cent of the revenue from the gas tax will go towards the fund. He also added that some of the road repairs will start soon. Source: Gleaner/Power 106 News Send your images, videos and updates to gireports@gleanerjm.com Your Comments
