Opposition Leader Andrew Holness has pledged his full  support for the Lamont family as they mourn the shooting death  Kay-Ann Lamont and her unborn child. Mr. Holness was speaking last night in Yallahs St. Thomas at a vigil held in memory of Kay-Ann who was killed by a police officer on Saturday.

Mr. Holness said that no family should face the Tragedy that the Lamont family is now facing. He also asserted that the death of Kay-Ann should not be in vain and should symbolize a turning point in the way police treat with citizens.

In describing her death as tragic and inexcusable, Mr. Holness called on the Commissioner of Police to move quickly to ensure that the Use of Force Policy is applied in an unequivocal manner. He also called on the police force to place special focus on the constabulary's Chaplaincy Unit. Mr. Holness maintained that the Chaplaincy Unit should be more effective and able to identify at risk police personnel before they do harm to citizens and or themselves.

While commending INDECOM and the DPP for their speedy action is bringing the current matter to the courts, Mr. Holness also raised issue with the several unresolved cases of police killings since the start of the year.  He referred to Vanessa Kirkland and Kevorn Shue and asked what of these other cases of alleged police excesses and when will they be brought forward so that those families can get some closure.
