Jamaican Education Ministry condemns recent spate of attacks on teachers

Ministry of Education | 2012-10-01 00:00:00

The Ministry of Education condemns the recent attacks on educators; the most brutal was the murder of the Information Technology teacher, a member of staff at the Old Harbour Bay High School.  The latest incident occurred today at the Dunrobin Primary School, where a female teacher was assaulted by two men on the school compound. These distasteful trends have indicated that there is an urgent need to bring to the forefront at all levels of society, the issue of behavior modification.

The Education Ministry would like to appeal to all citizens that our educators are important assets, and should be honoured and respected by everyone. These tendencies of uncontrolled anger need to be addressed, and persons that display such maladaptive behavior should seek whatever counseling and therapy services that are available in their communities.

In the mean time, The Education Minister, Rev. Ronald Thwaites, appeals to schools to tighten up on their security arrangements, be extra vigilant and he reminds everyone to be conscious and wary of any suspicious activity in their environment.
