Nine skilled bartenders from as far away as New Zealand and Australia and as close to home as Kingston will be gathering in Jamaica next week to compete in the 2012 Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum International Bartender Challenge. The nine national champions will compete for the Interational title on Friday October 26 in Kingston.

Representing Jamaica will be Ryan Mitto, who won the 2012 Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum Bartender Challenge in Jamaica in September. Overseas contenders include Johnathan Hommier representing Canada;  Australia’s Jamie Chesner; ”Seggy” Quizeo of the Cayman Islands; “Chava” Pacheco representing  Mexico; Jason Clark who will represent New Zealand; Daniel Melgar will be competing for Peru; Richard Tring from the UK and Ben Clemmon who will represent the US.

In order to qualify for the International Challenge, each finalist won the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum Bartender Challenge that was held in their respective country.

Before the International Challenge finals, the bartenders will be treated to a cultural tour of the Kingston metropolitan area including stops at Port Royal, the Trench Town Culture Yard  and the Bob Marley Museum. They will also tour the Appleton Estate in St. Elizabeth, as well as visit famous attractions on the North Coast, after the Challenge.

On Thursday, the bartenders will head to Jamaica’s famous Coronation Market where they will select local ingredients for their cocktail creations.

The 2012 Champion will win the coveted Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum International Bartender Challenge Trophy as well as a all expense vacation in Jamaica.
