Business leaders train for the CB UWI 5K in weekly pep-up session

Thalia Lyn, Douglas Orane and Minna Israel, organising committee members of the CB Group UWI 5K Run/Walk which is scheduled for Sunday, November 18, 2012, were joined by Marguerite Orane to take part in the Pep-Up training session held on Thursday evening from 5:30-7pm at the UWI Mona Bowl. 

The team of business leaders, who sit at the helm of the CB Group UWI 5K project, completed the socaerobics training session which ended with an entertaining Gangnam Style dance lesson. 

The Pep-Up Rally is a fun-filled training event set to happen every Thursday leading up to the CB Group U.W.I Run/Walk, which will also be held at the UWI Mona Bowl. The purpose of the Pep-Up sessions is not only to provide training for the 5K Run/Walk, but also to build awareness about the event within the university and wider communities. 

The inaugural CB Group UWI 5K Run/ Walk event is aimed at generating well needed funds to provide scholarships as well as boost sports development at the University’s sporting complex, The UWI Mona Bowl for Sporting Excellence.

 The ‘Walk Good, Run Great for education and sports development’ event, which is the outcome and largest legacy of the Grand Jamaica Homecoming 2012, is scheduled for Sunday November 18, 2012.  A main feature of the event is the honouring of Glen Mills, one of most successful coaches in track and field worldwide.  The CB Group UWI 5K Run/ Walk begins at the UWI Mona Bowl at 7:00am, and will take participants along the outer periphery of the campus, through the hospital then back to the Mona Bowl.

 The CB Group as Title Sponsor for three years has contributed Three Million Jamaican Dollars (JMD$3,000,000) per year and Scotiabank as Platinum Sponsor has presented One Millions Jamaican Dollars (JMD $1,000,000).
