Ministry of Education | 2012-11-13 00:00:00

Due to the recent heavy rains that affected the town of Port Maria and specifically the Port Maria Primary School, the following measures have been put in place to facilitate the resumption of regular classroom sessions for the students of this institution.

Note that the school has an enrollment of 1059 and 34 teachers.

The following will be put in place:

  • Grade 4 which consists of five (5) classes will receive classroom instruction  at the Port Maria Preparatory and High School
  • Grade 6 consists of five (5) classes, students will attend Brimmervale High School
  • Grade 5 (three of five classes) students will sit classes at the Emmanuel Baptist Church
  • Grade 5, the remaining two classes, students will attend Kurt United Church
  • The Ministry of Education is currently exploring other options for grades one to three.

This arrangement will commence on Thursday November 15, 2012 on a phased basis.

The Teachers and Parents were already consulted and are in full support of this proposal.

The Education Ministry will continue to work with all stakeholders, to ensure that feasible action plans are put in place on a long term basis for this school.
