OUR continues its investigation into the integrity and reliability of the JPS power system

Office of Utilities Regulation | 2012-12-07 00:00:00

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) continues its probe into the integrity and reliability of the electric power system operated by the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS).

The passage of hurricane Sandy and the immediate recovery needs among other things, delayed the speed of response to request for information. In the result, all information pertinent to the investigation has still not been received by the team. This along with the large volumes of additional technical data and policy documentation necessary to facilitate a comprehensive analysis has required schedule adjustments.

The probe was launched following the findings of an initial investigation conducted by the OUR into the island wide outage over the Independence weekend in August 2012 and the analysis of the preliminary and final outage reports which were submitted by JPS.

Every effort is being made to complete the probe in the shortest possible time. The OUR commits to advising the public of its findings as soon as they become available.
