On Friday, 7th December 2012 team members from the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) and SPM Waste Management Limited hosted a Christmas treat for the boys at the Manning’s Child Care Facility in Southfield St. Elizabeth.

The NSWMA Executive Director Ms. Jennifer Edwards, Member of Parliament Mr. Richard Parchment and the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development Mr. Robert Rainford all commended the staff for their work with the boys. They encouraged the boys not to be daunted by their start in life but to ensure that they capitalize on their education, be discipline, driven and have the right attitude; because these are what will guarantee their achievements tomorrow. Dr. Davidson Darway renowned Economist and Educator shared his life experiences and struggles during the motivational session, encouraged the boys to see each other as a brother and to be focused on the fact that ‘today they may suffer but tomorrow they will prosper’. Mr. Delroy Brown, Manager for the Home thanked the Member of Parliament, the Permanent Secretary, the NSWMA and SPM teams for bringing cheers to the boys. He assured everyone in attendance that the gesture and the gifts will forever be engraved in the minds of the boys and the staff.

This fun-filled day included a variety of food, snacks, cakes, frozen treats and refreshments with activities such as six-a-side football competition, Tug of War, dominoes, dancing, DJ and singing competitions among other activities. Gifts and prizes were donated by kind sponsors from Food for the Poor, Mega Marketing, Kirk Distributors, Cal’s Manufacturing, The Jamaica Biscuit Company Limited, Dairy Industries, Smith and Stewarts Distributors Limited and Cari-Med Limited.
