US$205,500.00 was seized by Customs Officers at the Sangster International Airport (SIA) on Monday, December 10. The passenger who attempted to clear customs through the “Nothing to Declare” channel made a false declaration by indicating on the Customs Declaration (C5) Form that he did not possess money exceeding US$10,000.00.
However after examination, the money was found hidden in clothing and other personal items. The passenger was subsequently breached under provisions of the relevant Acts and the money seized.
The public is being advised that making a false declaration is a breach of Sections 209/210 of the Customs Act. Also the trafficking of money over US$10,000.00 or its equivalent through the airport should be declared after which a form must be completed outlining proof of funds with the requisite evidence to substantiate said claim.
