On Decembe18, 2012, staff from Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will fan out across the island’s major business districts to distribute flyers, interact with the public and talk tax with the business owners and operators in these areas.
The teams of TAJ personnel will be visible in major business districts such as Down Town Kingston, Half-Way Tree, Constant Spring, Spanish Town, Portmore, Mandeville, Negril, Montego Bay, Old Harbour, to name a few, to distribute information flyers and share general tax information with business persons. The exercise is aimed at using a “hands on” approach to advising business persons and the general public on their tax obligations and also how TAJ is making it easier to do business with the administration.
This new approach to taxpayer education forms part of the tax authority’s Revenue Enhancement Strategy designed to build awareness among the citizenry, by positioning itself to be more visible while connecting in a more direct way with Jamaicans.
The activity comes ahead of the anticipated busy tax season, to focus on the March 15 Income Tax filing period, which runs from January to March each year. Tax Administration is continually changing the way it does business by engaging Jamaicans in various ways.
