Sagicor Life Jamaica has announced Best Care Children's Home as the recipient of $100,000 for the company’s ‘Sagicor Gives Back’ Christmas initiative. The firm went further to extend gifts of $30,000 each to the top two finalists of the Facebook based competition - Peace and Love Academic Scholarship (PALAS) and Bloom Foundation. In addition, Sagicor awarded $20,000 each to David Keane Foundation, Spanish Town Citizens Against Gun Violence and the Violence Prevention Alliance.

The company launched the initiative early in December allowing customers and members of the public to submit entries via email outlining which charitable organisation they believed was the most deserving of $100,000 courtesy of the insurance company. Entries were posted to Sagicor’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SagicorJamaica) permitting members of the Sagicor online community to express their preferences by ‘liking’ the entries. The final decision was left to a panel of judges.

Sagicor’s Assistant Vice President of Marketing, Ingrid Card, says “Sagicor supports a host of charities throughout the year. However, we believe that allowing the public to have an input in this instance has allowed other less known charities to be brought to the fore.”

Orville Johnson, Chairman of the board at Best Care Children's Home was elated upon receiving the news. “We are pleased and indebted to Sagicor for coming on board at a time when help is well needed. It has been a difficult year for us and we are very grateful,” said Johnson.

For 2013, Sagicor intends to continue to play its role as a good corporate citizen through participation, donations and structured community projects such as the upcoming Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run on February 17 and the Sagicor/JTA National Athletic Championships slated for late May.
