JLP leader expresses regret at passing of Mrs. Lorna Peralto

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has expressed regrets at the passing of Mrs Lorna Elaine Peralto (nee Tyrie), widow of former Chairman and General Secretary of the party, Mayor of Kingston and Member of the Senate, Ryan Peralto, who died in January, 2009.

Mrs. Peralto died on Tuesday January 8, 2013 at her home in Stony Hill. She was born on September 2, 1935.
“Mrs. Peralto was a remarkable human being, a humanitarian, patriot and mother, whose service to the nation is well recorded and acknowledged by the party and the Jamaican society,” Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, Andrew Holness said in a statement on her passing.

He said that the party profoundly regrets her passing, but joins with the society in endorsing her contribution to the society and hope that her life will be an example to other Jamaicans.

A Roman Catholic and Eucharistic Minister, she stretched out to help the Missionaries of Charity, Missionaries of the Poor and Food for The Poor as an associate or co-worker, and was head of the Roper Centre (a Catholic relief agency) during the 1980s. She was also a member of the Catholic Women’s League, the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Jamaica Tourist Board’s Meet the People Programme.

She leaves behind: brother, Colin; Sons, Ryan, Tarn, Shaun, Dane, and Jon; daughters, Aven and Mishka; as well as 18 grandchildren, daughters-in-law, Ingrid, Patrice, Shelley, Donna and Victoria, son-in-law Jerry and many other relatives and friends.

A Thanksgiving Service will be held for Mrs. Peralto at the Immaculate Conception Church, Stony Hill on January 19 at 2p.m.
