150,000.00 DONATION TO BOY’S TOWN BY THE VINYL RECORD COLLECTORS ASSOCIATION (VRCA)
The Vinyl Record Collectors Association (VRCA) will be making a donation of $150,000.00 to Boy’s Town on Friday February 1, 2013. This is keeping with VRCA’s commitment to make charitable contributions to a worthy institution or cause and follows on a similar gesture made to Alpha Boy’s School in December 2011.
VRCA is a non-profit organization registered in Florida with Chapters in New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Connecticut, Toronto and Jamaica. Each year there are fund raising activities within the various chapters with the premier event being the Annual Memorial Weekend Sit-In. This year the Memorial Weekend (the USA Holiday) will be held in Atlanta May 24-27.
Members of VRCA have long been associated with friends from Boy’s Town including Lyndel “Muddy” Wright the current President of Jamaica Cricket Association. We share in their vision that is “to provide opportunities to youth through education, training and social action” and it was therefore not a difficult task in choosing this great institution as the target of our donation.
February 1, 2013 is the beginning of reggae month and Trench Town, which is the community where Boys Town is located, is the mecca of Reggae music. The timing of this donation is coincidental and indeed most appropriate to kick off the month in the community, which has produced numerous reggae musicians including Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Delroy Wilson and most notably Bob Marley.
On February 1, VRCA will be hosting a press luncheon at Boys Town between 12:00 – 2 :00 pm to make this presentation.
