Ministry of Education | 2013-01-31 00:00:00

The Ministry of Education has strongly condemned the senseless slaying of a female student that took place during her early morning commute to school.

According to a report from the Ministry’s Regional Office, the victim is 14 year old Sherippa Saddler, an eighth grade student of the Haille Selassie High School . She was attacked, beaten and strangled then dumped on Loton Avenue in Olympic Gardens.

The Ministry of Education is alarmed by this incident, and would like to express sincere condolences to Sherippa Saddler’s family and friends as they struggle with their loss during this difficult period. Children have to travel to and from school and are exposed to these criminals who continue to prey on defenseless students. The Education Ministry would also like to remind and encourage parents to ensure that children in their daily commute, walk in groups so that they can see, assist and protect each other.

A  Trauma Response Team has been instructed to visit the school, and offer grief counselling services and support to the students and the teachers who have been affected by this incident. It is anticipated that the perpetrators of this reprehensible act will be quickly apprehended and justice served.
