The unblemished record of a one hundred per cent (100%) conviction rate in finalised cases brought before the courts continues for the Revenue Protection Division (RPD), a division of the Ministry of Finance & Planning, as the Division obtained its first conviction for the year, in a case involving six defendants.

The six who were charged whilst employed to the Ministry of Finance & Planning, on January 31 pleaded guilty to charges of uttering forged documents, in a case which commenced in 2011.

Sentencing is set to take place on February 18, 2013.

This was closely followed by a guilty plea by a Cashier from Tax Administration Jamaica who, on February 1, 2013 pleaded in the Montego Bay RM Court to one count of corruption and one count of conspiracy to defraud - in the case surrounding the missing high value documents from the Tax Administration Jamaica stores. These documents include Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates, Drivers Licence Teslins, blank Motor Vehicle Titles and Motor Vehicle License Discs (Stickers).

As the RPD continues its drive to stem the revenue lost in connection with this matter, and close the existing loopholes, the Division is imploring members of the public who may have information regarding the possession, or use, of motor vehicle documents suspected to be fraudulent, or information concerning suspected fraudulent activities as it relates to Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) to contact the Revenue Protection Division at , or 1-888-225-5773 (CALLRPD).
The Division is reminding members of the public that the presentation of fraudulent documents is an offence and that the full force of the law will be brought to bear on the offenders.

The RPD is mandated to protect the Government’s revenue through the enforcement of the Revenue Administration and Customs Acts, investigations into fraud and corruption within the Revenue Services, and improving the efficiency of revenue collection.
