Business operators have 4 weeks to file their income tax returns before the March 15 deadline expires. Self-employed individuals, partners, companies, other bodies and employed persons with additional sources of income are therefore urged to prepare and file their Return of Income and Tax Payable for 2012 and their Declaration of Estimated Income & Tax Payable for 2013 early, to avoid the usual last minute rush.
To make it easier for persons to meet their filing obligations, Tax Administration Jamaica is encouraging customers to use its expanded e-service to file and pay their Income Tax returns online. Persons using the online option would benefit from:
• No more waiting in line
• Convenience of access 24 hours, 7 days per week
• Entering data electronically instead of manually
• Being able to view account
To file online, persons must first complete an Application for Electronic Filing Account Registration Form and submit it at any Tax Office or complete the registration process over the phone by calling the Tax Administration’s Customer Care Centre at 1-888-TAX-HELP (829-4357). Once registered, persons will be able to file not only their Income Tax returns but also GCT returns, payroll monthly remittances and the Employer’s Annual Return (S02) which also becomes due on March 31.
Additionally, the Tax Administration has begun hosting 156 free special taxpayer assistance sessions at several locations across the island, to assist small business persons to prepare their tax returns to meet the March 15 due date. Persons who wish to use the service are being asked to take with them all business related documents. These include their Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN), bank statements, purchase invoices, receipts, sales records, utility bills, wage records and any other records that can be used to verify income and expenses.
Details of all venues, dates and times for the sessions are available through the Customer Care Centre, the nearest Tax Office and via the administration’s website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm
