Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union (JPCCU) handed over in excess of J$1.2 million for hurricane relief efforts for its Members at a Handover Ceremony held at its branch located at Pompano Commercial Centre in Tower Isle, St. Mary. Commitments were made to 23 Members from the parishes of St. Mary and Portland who applied for funds to assist them in rebuilding and repairing infrastructural damages they experienced during the passage of Hurricane Sandy.
Speaking at the Handover Ceremony, Mr. Anthony McLaughlin, JPCCU Board Member noted that, “a Disaster Relief Fund was approved by the Members present at a recent Annual General Meeting of Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union. Acting General Manager, Nattisha Scott indicated that the “St. Mary Branch has served the area for over seven years. During which time, the branch has been actively involved in the community development through the support of a number of corporate social outreach initiatives, such as the Police National Sports and the adoption of the Galina Basic School. The Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union has also contributed to the community development through the disbursement of Scholarships and Bursaries to students in the area pursuing their academic studies”.
The Members, who benefitted from this initiative were overjoyed to receive the support from the Credit Union and gave moving words of gratitude to the organization for reaching out to them. Almost five months after the hurricane, the residents are still in recovery mode, as they seek to rebuild their homes with a view to putting the memories of the damages behind and to move forward with their lives.
