Artists Talk at the National Gallery

National Gallery of Jamaica | 2013-03-07 00:00:00

The National Gallery of Jamaica presents a special opening on Monday, March 11th to facilitate a final walking tour of the National Biennial with four of the participating artists, in honour of the hugely popular exhibition. This will be the absolute last opportunity to see the National Biennial, which was scheduled to close on March 9th but has been held over by popular demand.

The artists giving the tour are: Jasmine Thomas – Girvan, winner of the Aaron Matalon Award; Storm Saulter; Duane Allen and Hope Brooks. Artists will lead the visitors through the exhibition giving insights into their work and the work of the other artists, and stimulating dialogue around the recent developments in Jamaican art.

Though the Gallery is normally closed to the public on Mondays, it will be open for viewing from 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., with the artist tours commencing at 11:00 a.m. The permanent exhibitions, which feature prime examples of Jamaican art from the Pre-Columbian period to the 20th century, will also be open for viewing.

Students are encouraged to attend, as well as persons living and working in the Gallery's downtown neighbourhood.

The National Gallery will be closed on Easter Sunday, March 31st which would have been our normal Last Sunday Opening. Please join us for this special Monday opening and an engaging and lively last viewing of the 2012 National Biennial.
