Finals of JCDC Children Gospel Song Competition to celebrate child’s month

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will be celebrating Child’s Month in a special way this year, as it hosts the grand finals of the Grace Tropical Rhythms Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Competition under the theme “Children of the Rock”. This will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre starting at 6:30 p.m.

The Finals will feature over 200 of Jamaica’s most talented children from schools, churches and other groups from across the island. The Finalists are between the ages of 6-15 years old, ministering great gospel music as soloists, ensembles and choirs. The winners will receive cash awards, trophies and gift packages. This competition is of even greater significance as the JCDC celebrates 50 years of cultural excellence and continues to unearth, develop and showcase the best talent and cultural expression of the Jamaican people.

Also scheduled to perform on Sunday are Father Ho Lung & Friends Junior Department with special appearances by Alex Anderson and Remone Watson, 2012 Children’s Gospel Solo winners and Tony Young will be the Master of Ceremony.

According to Leighton Jones, JCDC Coordinator for Gospel and Church Services, “this year we will see some of the most talented children from across the island showcasing their natural gift of song. The finals promise to be an enjoyable evening and we invite everyone to come out as our Children of the Rock celebrate Child’s Month by giving praises to their Heavenly Father.”

The sponsors for the competition include, Grace Tropical Rhythms, Grace Frankfurters, Excelsior, JCCUL’s Treasure Chest, Tastee Cheese, LOVE 101 FM and Hot 102 FM.  

Tickets for the event are being sold at adults: $700 pre-sold, $800 at the gate and children $300. Special group rates are also available and tickets may be purchase at JCDC Parish Offices, Music Depot (Clock Tower Plaza), Portmore Mall Pharmacy and Source of Light Book Store (Hagley Park Plaza) or online at
