The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) continues to provide opportunities for Jamaicans to express their talents and knowledge of the island’s rich cultural heritage. In collaboration with the Little Ochi Seafood Carnival, JCDC will host the first Regional Festival Prince and Princess Coronation on Sunday, July 14 starting at 5pm at Alligator Pond in Manchester. The coronation will bring added excitement to the Carnival along with special guest performances by VoiceMail, Laden, Cherine Anderson, Duane Stephenson and Judith Gayle. Admission is $1000 at the gate and children under 12 enter free.

Parish Coronations were held in St. Elizabeth, Manchester and Clarendon with boys and girls between ages 9 to 12 years old, and the winner from each parish will now compete for the Regional crown as Festival Prince and Princess of Central Jamaica. The competition incorporates not only talent and cultural awareness, but also community involvement. The contestants must conduct research and present findings about their area of residency and how they can contribute to its development.

Mrs. Mavis Bruce-Granston, JCDC Central Regional Manager, noted that the competition is all about fun and educating young boys and girls, who will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to become cultural ambassadors. They will also have the task of igniting inspiration in other children to contribute to their community.
