Kingston Craft Market hosts Emancipation Day ‘Nyammings’ and Fashion Show

The Kingston Craft Market will be hosting Emancipation Day ‘Nyammings’ and Fashion Show from 8:00am to 6:00pm on Thursday, August 1, at 52 Port Royal Street. Vendors will also be offering special discount of 20 percent on selected items throughout the day.

The Emancipation Day event will see a mix of traditional Jamaican dishes, ackee and salt fish, ackee and corn pork, mackerel run down, pepper pot soup, fritters, bammy, roast breadfruit, potato pudding, chocolate tea, lemonade, ginger beer and other culinary delights.

Entertainment features include a Fashion Show which will begin at 2:00pm, storytelling sessions and traditional music all day by Livingstone Disco.

The event which is endorsed by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) will serve to promote downtown Kingston as an ideal location for both business and pleasure. The UDC is currently completing upgrading works at the Craft Market and also spearheading the redevelopment of downtown Kingston and Port Royal. Stakeholders are being invited to visit the UDC’s website at and share their thoughts via a blog page to further inform this planning process for downtown Kingston. 

The redevelopment of downtown Kingston and Port Royal is aligned with the Vision 2030 Jamaica national development plan which aims to make Jamaica the place of choice to work, live, raise families and do business.
