G2K welcomes OCG'S Report

G2K | 2013-09-18 00:00:00

Generation 2000 (G2K), the Young Professional Affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party, today welcomed the long awaited investigation report, by the Office of the Contractor General (OCG), into the building and rental of shops at the Spaulding market in Clarendon.

The organisation takes note of the Contractor General’s assertion that the actions of the Minister of State “…have brought the Clarendon Parish Council into disrepute and are at best, tantamount to being politically corrupt as defined by Transparency International”. G2K also joins with the OCG and urges the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution to rule on the OCG’s referral in a timely manner so as to promote good governance.

In light of the incriminating content of the report, and the inference that the Member of Parliament was involved in a web of conspiracy, G2K is raising fresh concerns about other contracts or transactions involving the contractor, John Bryant, which have been pursued in Mr. Azan’s North West Clarendon Constituency.

The organisation calls upon the OCG to examine all other works that were awarded in the Constituency, including that of the Thompson Town Post Office, which appears to involve some of the primary players from the Spaulding Market Scandal.

Generation 2000 today chastised the Simpson-Miller lead Administration for shamelessly acting in the interest of the Political Party and not the country by allowing Richard Azan to continue as Minister of State, despite his assertions regarding his role in the entire affair and called on Minister Azan to display some pride and immediately submit his letter of resignation.
