Tourism and Entertainment Ministry seeks events for Reggae Month 2014

The Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment is looking for new and existing entertainment events to be endorsed under the Reggae Month| its Kingston for February initiative for the 2014 celebrations. Events chosen will be endorsed by the Jamaica Tourist Board and included in the Reggae Month| its Kingston for February calendar.  In addition, the events will receive local and international promotion.

The aim of the new Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment initiative is to leverage the unique value proposition of Reggae and the cultural significance of Reggae music and its celebration in the month of February in order to attract more visitors to Kingston. Reggae Month| its Kingston for February is also aimed at increasing economic activities from entertainment events for local entrepreneurs.

Interested persons are invited to complete and submit the Request for Endorsement form found on the Ministry’s website:  The form will be used to invite new and existing Reggae-centric activities to partner with the Ministry on the initiative. The original and two copies of the application form must be submitted to the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, 64 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston 5, by Monday, November 11, 2013 by 3:00 p.m.

To be considered, the event must meet the following basic criteria:

• the event must fall between February 1 – 28, 2014
• the event must be held in the Kingston and St. Andrew Metropolitan Region
• the proposed activity should be Reggae related

In addition, applicants must indicate how their event will diversify the current offerings; their experience in promoting events; and why their event should be considered for endorsement. 

Reggae Month highlights the impact of the musical genre on the island’s social, cultural and economic development while drawing the attention of the world to brand Jamaica.  The month-long celebration includes a wide array of events, including concerts, festivals, seminars and award shows that capture the true essence of Jamaican music.
