The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) has described Tessanne Chin’s historic victory on the highly rated US NBC television singing reality show ‘The Voice’ as an exceptional international achievement.

In a statement today (December 18), the Chairman of  the JAMPRO Board, Milton Samuda said Tessanne Chin’s victory throws into extremely sharp focus the almost limitless dividends that investing in the Creative Industries can pay in the national effort to create wealth.

“Once again, amidst the considerable challenges that beset us, a gifted artiste has given us renewed hope that as a Nation, we can overcome those challenges; renewed faith that as a People, we can beat the odds; and renewed conviction that our combined talent can earn for us robust economic growth”, said Samuda.

JAMPRO has had a long association with the 28-year old singing sensation, who has participated in a number of promotional activities organised by the national investment and trade promotions agency over the years.

JAMPRO President, Diane Edwards points out that in 2007, Tessanne was part of the JAMPRO Creative Industries mission to MIDEM, France, the largest music industry trade show of its kind the world, attended by thousands of music professionals, major record companies, music publishers and distributors, A&R executives, agents, producers, attorneys, promoters and festival programmers. “Outstanding emerging Jamaican talents like Tessanne Chin have partnered with JAMPRO over the years to promote business and investment opportunities in Jamaica’s Creative Industries”, noted Ms Edwards.

“Through her performances, she galvanized the Jamaican Diaspora and captured the hearts and imagination of millions of Americans, who voted for her…and she did it with consummate talent and humility”, added Edwards.

JAMPRO Chairman Samuda also underscored the charm and humility factor that endeared Tessanne Chin to the viewers in the United States and across the Jamaican Diaspora. “Her ambassadorial poise and urbanity has set an example for the Youth of Jamaica and her victory has been a unifying joy at home and abroad, and a great Christmas gift to the nation. She is deserving of this even bigger launching pad on the Voice, because she’s the genuine article”, added Samuda.

Diane Edwards agrees: “Tessanne has shown how powerful Jamaica is as a concept, and how when we have self-belief, we can achieve the seemingly impossible.”
