New operating schedule for Two Sisters Caves

Urban Development Corporation | 2014-01-31 00:00:00

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC), owner and operator of Two Sisters Caves, Hellshire, St. Catherine wishes to advise that the Caves will no longer open on a daily basis but will be open for bookings for special events to groups of at least fifty (50) persons. This is to increase the operational efficiency of the attraction.

This change will take effect February 5, 2014. Located in Hellshire, Two Sisters’ Caves offers guided educational tours and explorations. The facility is one of several historic sites in Hellshire and is believed to have been a ceremonial site for the Tainos, borne out by the carving of an adult Taino face on the wall of the northern pool. The southern pool contains a water feature and intriguing rock formations.

The redevelopment of the Two Sisters’ Cave project was undertaken by the UDC in 2005 as part of efforts to expand its portfolio of attractions/recreational venues which includes Fort Clarence Beach, Hellshire, Reach Falls, Portland, Dunn’s River Falls and Park, Green Grotto Caves and Ocho Rios Bay Beach in St. Ann. The Corporation also manages Bluefields Beach Park and Long Bay Beach Parks 1 and 2 in Westmoreland and Hanover.

The UDC has been delegated authority to manage lands within Hellshire Hills, which is a part of the Portland Bight Protected Area.
