“Lisa Hanna must apologize!” G2K

Generation 2000 (G2K), the Young Professional Affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party is calling on Lisa Hanna to apologize for misleading the public about the reasons for the closing of the Alpha Boys’ Home. The call by the organization follows reports that the administrators of Alpha Boys’ Home decided to close the institution due to "many factors related to finance and personnel".  The organization notes that these reasons are in total contradiction to recent statements made by the Minister of Youth and Culture, Lisa Hanna.

“Once again, we are hearing unfortunate and irresponsible comments by the Minister of Youth, Lisa Hanna. Her scandalous comments about the Alpha Boys’ Home have left the entire home, especially the boys, facing undue suffering. We denounce the statements that branded the boys, the home and its personnel,” said Ronique Rhoden, G2k Vice President

Emerging reports make it quite clear that announcements made by the Minister, regarding the challenges that led to the closure, were highly disingenuous.  The Minister’s distraction from the ‘lack of funds’ at the home comes on the heels of recent budget cuts by the government.

“It is unfortunate that the minister and her government do not deem providing sufficient financial assistance for these homes a priority. It appears the minister would rather spend on acquiring consultants, than on providing the homes with what is necessary to keep them open. It is a travesty for the government to allow a home with such a renowned legacy to close, with the minister adding further insult to injury by branding every boy in the home for life,” said Floyd Green, President of G2K.

The organization is calling on Minister Lisa Hanna to immediately retract her statement and apologize to the home, the Sisters of Mercy and the Boys”.
