The MPM Waste Management Limited through the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) wishes to inform the public that the section of the Riverton Disposal Site that was ablaze on Saturday, 19th April 2014 is now contained and is expected to be fully extinguished by Friday, 25th April 2014.

We apologize to persons affected by the smoke and assure the public that we are taking steps to address various anomalies that exist on the disposal site. One planned measure is to control and account for the number of persons that have access to and or enter the disposal site to scavenge the area.  A review of the current security arrangements, which include members of the Jamaica Defence Force, the Police and Private Security Company providing security will also be done.

The Authority and the regional body will provide timely updates as the team, along with our fire fighting partners work assiduously to bring the situation back to normal operations.
