Generation 2000 (G2K), the Young Professional Affiliate of the Jamaican Labour Party has called upon the Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell to account for the circumstances under which the 7 million United States Dollar bond posted by Energy World International Limited (EWI) will not retained by the Government of Jamaica, despite EWI having its licence revoked.

The bond of US$7.37 million which was posted by EWI on October 18, 2013 was to stand as security to indicate EWI’s preferred bidder’s interest in pursuing the project and should have been forfeited to the Government if EWI failed to proceed with the project. G2K noted that with EWI failing to provide the performance bond in the time allowed and with the Government taking steps to revoke the licence of the entity, it expected that the coffers of Government should be now Eight Hundred and Thirteen Million Jamaican dollars richer.

“If it is true that the Bond amount will have to be returned to EWI due to the actions or inaction of the Minister then this would be a travesty of the highest order and Minister Paulwell's position as Minister would be untenable” said Floyd Green, President of G2K
The Organisation noted that the Minister failed to mention the fate of EWI’s security bond in his sectoral presentation to Parliament yesterday and the OUR has eerily silent on the point.

“We cannot tolerate any more, mistakes, missteps, or exuberance whether youthful or not from Minister Paulwell. Not only has he tarnished Jamaica's international reputation with his handling of this entire project but it now appears that he has again cost the Jamaican people millions. It cannot be that our standards for our Ministers are so low that Minister Paulwell is allowed to continue in this position despite these seemingly consistent occurrences” continued Green

The organization called upon civil society, the PSOJ and all well thinking members of society to demand that Minister Paulwell tell the country the full story regarding the EWI security bond.
