Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party today called upon the Minster of Youth and Culture to use her sectoral presentation to provide an update on commitments she made during last year's sectoral presentation.

“It is unfortunate that a year has elapsed and the country is still unsure about the status of a number of initiatives the Minister announced last year. Issues such as the merger of the National Youth Service and National Center for Youth Development still remain a mystery  and leaves one to wonder what is really happening at the Ministry" said G2K President Floyd Green. "Not only have timelines not been honoured but in some cases, it appears that the initiatives have just not gotten off the ground" continued Green

The organization has called upon the Minister to provide a detailed account of the following:

The status of the National Youth Policy. The Minister had assured the Nation that a Green paper of the Policy would have been tabled in Parliament by September 2013

An update on the announced merger of the National Youth Service (NYS) and the National Centre for Youth Development (NCYD) including the status of the merger, efficiencies, if any, that have been realised in relation to the process of the merger & the estimated time frame for the completion of the merger, if it is not yet complete.

The audit of the CDA (Child Development Agency) which the Minister indicated was conducted but has to date failed to publish its report. The organisation expects that the audit will be made public in keeping with principles of transparency and accountability.

The status of the removal of juveniles from the island’s adult correctional institutions and a progress report on the plan outlined in last year’s Sectoral Presentations regarding "child-friendly" lockups at police station

The status of the ‘Art for Life’ program announced last year including moneys spent, activities undertaken & the number of children impacted and

The programs which have been implemented by the Ministry in response to the Youth Situational Analysis.

The status of the monies owed to suppliers by the JCDC including any outstanding amounts from Jamaica 50.
