Digicel confirms lowest dropped call rate in Jamaica

Digicel Jamaica | 2014-05-21 00:00:00

Digicel Jamaica has confirmed that it has the lowest dropped call rate of any local operator. While consistently endeavouring to improve its services, Digicel pointed out that its network is best in class with statistics for dropped calls well below the global average of 1 to 2 percent.

Nevertheless the telecommunications company noted that it understands that customers have come to expect and deserve a superior mobile experience from Digicel and is committed to achieving this goal through continued investment and customer education.

The company has proactively implemented an island-wide customer education campaign designed to help customers enjoy the best experience on their smartphones. “For example, if you have not upgraded your phone software since the start of the year, you should check if a software update is available to avoid having a substandard mobile experience. We understand that customers need assistance in this area and that is why we have been hosting Data Link-Up sessions across the island in our various dealer stores to give hands-on support and guidance to customers on updating their software and a host of other activities designed to help maximise their smartphone experience,” explained Digicel’s Distribution Director, Patrick King.

Dropped calls can also be related to network issues such as lack of coverage in a particular area. In this regard, Digicel recently announced that it has completed a massive expansion project on its 4G mobile network, increasing its footprint to now 92% population coverage across Jamaica. “We are happy to be able to provide the most reliable and fastest mobile internet experience for consumers on Jamaica’s only 4G network,” said Digicel’s Chief Technology Officer, Krishna Phillipps noting that the company invested $6B in this initiative last year and is planning to continue upgrading the network in the current financial year.

With milestone network expansions completed, Digicel is now focusing its efforts on optimising & fine-tuning network performance. “We will continue to invest in our network this year through the modernisation of the core infrastructure and several of our key transmission sites in order to facilitate continued service quality improvement,” said Phillips.
