ODPEM | 2012-02-14 13:35:00

The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) in collaboration with a number of its partner agencies and parish councils will be staging a series of earthquake drills across the island on Wednesday February 15, 2012.  These drills form part of the ODPEM’s National Simulation Exercise (NaSIMEX) 2012 which was launched on Friday January 13, 2012.

These drills will include the participation from communities, schools and businesses with the aim to test the response of critical agencies and institutions to an earthquake and to test the knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures, including evacuation, assembly and roll call.

An official Search and Rescue exercise will be conducted at the Kensington Primary School in Portmore, St.Catherine. This exercise involves a mass casualty incident at the school and will include participating agencies from the Jamaica Fire Brigade, the Ministry of Health and the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

In addition, the ODPEM is encouraging all of Jamaica, Schools, Businesses and other organizations to participate in this exercise by conducting their own earthquake drill on this day. This can be done by logging on to the ODPEM’s official website and registering with NaSIMEX 2012.
