Due to heavy rainfall last Saturday, St Luke’s Church has rescheduled its “Run for the Son” 5k Road Race to Saturday September 6, beginning at 6:30am.

The Venerable Patrick Cunningham, Rector of the Church is urging persons to come out in their numbers to support the event as they will be helping several worthy causes including assisting the St. Simon’s Basic School in its preparations for the new School term and to make important interventions to help promote its continued viability.”

The run is being staged against the backdrop of the harsh economy and mounting pressures being faced by the less fortunate in their own race to survive. The Church which is located in the heart of Cross Roads serves communities in and around the area such as Jones Town with a wide range of intervention programmes spanning primarily the education and health sectors. These include the St Simon’s Basic School, hosting a weekly feeding programme for over 300 street persons and an annual health fair.

The 5K Road Race is among the several initiatives that the Church is undertaking to help fund these programmes. The run is open to adults and children for a nominal fee. Persons wishing to participate may still register at or call or visit the Church Office.
