Digicel Jamaica | 2014-10-07 00:00:00

The nominees for the coveted Digicel Business ICT Award  have been announced, just ahead of the 2014 Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) Awards Banquet to be held at the Jamaica Pegasus this Thursday, October 9. These include some of Jamaica’s top manufacturers, namely Red Stripe, Honey Bun, Petrojam and Caribbean Foods.

The award, which was added to the list of JMA annual awards in 2009, will now see Digicel Business recognising companies in both the large and small enterprises in the sector. The Digicel Business ICT Award identifies and celebrates those companies that have successfully implemented ICT solutions to transform and improve their business processes.

Last year, baked goods manufacturer, Honey Bun, took home the award after clearly demonstrating how ICT helped them to improve their sales and distribution processes, revamp their security system and managing their fleet of vehicles more efficiently, all of which resulted in significant cost-savings for the company and increased productivity.

General Manager of Digicel Business, Jason Corrigan shared: “With both ICT and the local manufacturing sector playing a key role in Jamaica’s economic development, Digicel Business is pleased to once again be recognising local companies in the sector that are incorporating technological innovation in their daily operations for greater efficiency and profitability – regardless of the size of their organisations.”

According to statistics from the JMA, Jamaican manufacturers contributed 8.4% to the national GDP in 2013 and over 70,000 jobs from direct employment. To that, Corrigan added, “We are committed to supporting the growth and development of the manufacturing sector with continued investment in providing state-of-the-art ICT products and solutions to ensure that Jamaica is on par with global standards in technology.”

President of the JMA, Brian Pengelley said, “With the advancements in the global manufacturing industry, our local manufacturers must embrace technology and innovation. The Digicel Business ICT award is the perfect way to shine the spotlight on those companies that have been integrating information communication technologies in their operations.”

Pengelley added that, “ICT is critical to the success of the local manufacturing sector. Manufacturers need to recognise the extent to which they can gain from making an investment in ICT and this award epitomizes that.”
