International Anti-Corruption Day- December 9, 2014

Office of the Contractor General of Jamaica | 2014-12-09 00:00:00

The Office of the Contractor General (OCG) joins the global observance of today as International Anti-Corruption Day, with a view to raising public awareness on the issue of corruption.

In light of Jamaica’s recent performance on Transparency International’s 2014 Corruption Perception Index (CPI), where the country was ranked at 85 of 175 countries, with a score of 38, we use this opportunity to echo the call for renewed efforts in fighting corruption in both the public and private spheres.

As the OCG continues to fulfil its obligations to the people of Jamaica, in keeping with the provisions of the Contractor-General Act, it is recognized that if we are to succeed in the fight against corruption, greater partnership amongst all stakeholders is of significant importance. To this end, we must, therefore, engage all stakeholders, by commencing and maintaining a robust anti-corruption public education campaign, with a view to creating a united alliance against corruption.

The OCG also utilizes this opportunity to share the 2014 International Anti-Corruption Day Message of Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of United Nation, which may be accessed utilizing the web link http://www.un.org/en/events/anticorruptionday/messages.shtml
