Boston, Manchioneal and Hector’s River in Portland were the scene of high energy and cheerful smiles this past weekend, thanks to telecommunications company Digicel. With its energy-packed Christmas Mission roadshow, the company made stops in each community, where several lucky customers also won DL750 smartphones, call credit and other prizes.

Making its first stop in Boston, both patrons and chefs of the infamous jerk spot were thoroughly entertained by the Digicel Dancers. So much so that Jamaican violinist Jessica Yapp and her family, along with several tourists who were at the jerk spot, couldn’t help but to join in the fun and learn some new dance moves.

Moving on from Boston, it was on to Manchioneal, where home-grown deejay, Daniel ‘Spoil Chile’ Beckford had fans screaming for more. Making a melody of his Christmas wishes, the young entertainer had the crowd in stitches with creative lyrics like: “Digicel this Christmas ago merry; fi mi present mi woulda tek a BlackBerry.” For his efforts, he received a brand new Digicel smartphone.

At the final stop, eight-year-old Kemar ‘Juicy’ Samuels in Hector’s River, celebrated a big win of over $5000 in call credit after challenging the Digicel Dancers to a showdown.

Meanwhile, in a selfless act, teenager, Sheena Fuller, who won a smartphone for naming all 13 Digicel brand ambassadors, publicly donated her phone to her friend Onecia Allen, who didn’t own a phone. “Onecia is my friend.  We go to the same school, Happy Grove High. Since I already have a phone I had no problem giving her,” Fuller said. “My granny always says, give and it will come back to you.” So Digicel returned the kind gesture by giving Fuller a smartphone for herself.

“The community spirit that we witnessed in Portland was overwhelming,” said Tahnida Nunes, senior sponsorship manager at Digicel. “Everyone came out in their numbers - they danced together and just had a great time. This is the vibe we aim to create with taking the spirit of Christmas to our customers in their communities. In the end, our customers help us to fulfil our mission of ensuring that everyone has something to smile about this Christmas”

Digicel will continue to take its Christmas Mission roadshow island-wide, giving away over 6000 toys at 70 different community treats. This comes in addition to the company’s ‘Your Christmas, Our Mission’ promotion, which will see over 200,000 customers winning a share of $60M in cash and prizes.
