With over fifteen thousand patrons and a star-studded line-up, Digicel’s tribute to Bob Marley’s 70th birthday—the ‘Redemption Live’ free concert—brought the downtown Kingston Waterfront alive on Saturday, February 7.

Touted as a huge success, Marketing Director at Digicel, Peter Lloyd, is thanking all its partners and the performers for pulling out all the stops to ensure that the event flowed smoothly for the entire night and that the audience left with lasting memories.

“Digicel is extremely humbled to have been able to celebrate Bob Marley’s 70th birthday with this amazing concert on the Waterfront. Redemption Live paid tribute to the Reggae Legend in an awesome way—with people from all over the world celebrating his life and music and we simply could not have done this without the huge support we received from all our partners.”

These include Red Stripe, Pepsi, the Jamaica Tourist Board, Headline Entertainment, Main Event, KFC, Rainforest Seafood, Consolidated Bakeries (Purity), Phase 3 productions as well as the local and international media.

Also impressed by the overall event, Cedella Marley, Bob Marley’s daughter said, “What a stellar display of excellence from all of the performers and Digicel's production team on Saturday night's show!  The Marley family expresses its gratitude to those who came to celebrate the Honourable Robert Nesta Marley’s 70th birthday.”

She continued, “Our partnership with Digicel has proven to be fruitful once again in keeping the spirit of the Legend alive!”

Jason Hall, Deputy Director of the Jamaica Tourist Board also commended Digicel for its tremendous efforts in staging the event, which was also viewed by close to 50,000 persons from 168 countries across the world via Digicel’s live stream on its Facebook page.

“It was a pleasure and an honour to work with Digicel on this project,” said Hall. “It was an extremely well-produced show in the unique backdrop of downtown Kingston and a solid tribute befitting a legend.”

Hall added, “We must commend the Digicel team on a seamless production and the artistes for their high quality performances which showcased the best and brightest of brand Jamaica for Jamaica and the entire world to enjoy.”

The show featured high-energy performances by top local and international artistes including Tessanne Chin, Tarrus Riley, Marcia Griffiths, Capleton, I Octane and the Marley sons.
