Generation 2000 ( G2K) , the young professional arm of the Jamaica Labour Party, which was launched in February of the year 2000, celebrates its fifteenth anniversary  as a vibrant political action group seeking to change the political landscape in Jamaica.

“Under an array of leadership, our main aim has consistently been to promote, preserve and defend the rights of all Jamaicans. This includes our rights to accessing quality education, the promotion of culture, freedom of political expression, access to social, religious and economic opportunities and the promotion of good governance” said General Secretary, Lionel Myrie.

“Since its inception, Generation 2000 has played a vital role in helping to promote ideas aimed at directing the country on a path for sustainable growth and development at all levels. We take pleasure in being the main vehicle for advocacy on behalf of youth of Jamaica and we will continue to advance the spread of knowledge and understanding of the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance”, continued Myrie.

As the organisation celebrates its fifteenth anniversary, it acknowledges that in spite of the many contributions to national development, there is still much more work to be done. In light of this, the month of February will be celebrated under the theme “Youth in action: A renewed commitment to a better Jamaica”. Our theme is aimed at highlighting the significance of active participation of the Jamaican youth in helping to shape our nation’s future.

The celebrations began with a church service at the Assemblies of the First Born Church in Three Hills, St. Mary on February 1, 2015. A wide range of activities are being undertaken during the month of February and includes a Youth Conference which will be led by Past Presidents Dr. Christopher Tufton, Warren Newby, Delano Severight and headlined by Republican Jason Halliburton, Founding Director of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta.

The conference, scheduled to take place this Sunday at the University of the West Indies will also provide a platform for members of the JLP's youth affiliate organization, Young Jamaica, as well as other members of Generation 2000. Party Leader and former G2k Executive member Andrew Holness and Senator Kamina Johnson- Smith are also expected to address the audience of young aspiring nation builders.
