G2K to elect New President

Generation 2000 (G2K), the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party ( JLP)  will have a new leader come Saturday, March 7. The organization will, at an Extraordinary General Meeting to be held at the JLP's Headquarters, confirm a replacement for Floyd Green , who indicated his intention to vacate office last month.

G2K vice-presidents Matthew Samuda, Daryl Whyte -Wong and General Secretary Lionel Myrie have all been named as likely replacements to lead the fifteen year old organization. 

Green, who is Deputy Spokesperson on Science, ICT and Digital Society Development and Member of Parliament caretaker for South West St. Elizabeth , has indicated that he will be stepping away to focus more energy on his constituency.

"I think the time is right especially with Local Government and General elections on the Horizon, there is need to ensure that no effort is spared in providing the residents of South West St. Elizabeth with effective representation. Additionally the organisation has an excellent tradition of no president serving longer than three years and I am on the cusp of that milestone " said Floyd Green, outgoing president,G2k .

Since its inception in the year 2000 as a political-action group and the think tank policy arm of the JLP the organization has been led by  Dr David Panton, Dr Ronald Robinson, Dr. Christopher Tufton ,Warren Newby, Delano Severight and Floyd Green.

"G2K has an exceptional team both at the Management level and throughout our parish network and as such I am confident that the organisation will continue to play a significant role in the  Nation's affairs "said Green, Green noted that the organisation which has just concluded very successful month of activities to mark it's 15th Anniversary has seen the formation of over 8 chapters and steering committee across the island over the past 2 years.

The newly elected President is expected to address G2K members and begin discussions on the way the forward for continued growth of the organization.  Opposition Leader Andrew Holness will also make a presentation to the gathering of young professional supporters of the Jamaica Labour Party.
