TRANSPORT AUTHORITY SUSPENDS ACCEPTANCE OF NEW ROAD LICENCE APPLICATIONS FOR ALL CATEGORIES OF PUBLIC PASSENGER VEHICLES (PPV) EFFECTIVE APRIL 10, 2012

The Transport Authority, as part of the process to assess and rationalize the public transportation sector, will suspend acceptance of NEW applications for all categories of Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) road licences effective April 10, 2012.

The suspension will last six (6) weeks and is expected to facilitate consideration of a number of new road licence applications currently in house, based on the transitionary period for a new Board and Licensing Committee. During the period of suspension, the Authority will also initiate the analysis of various routes in order to respond to the demand and supply within the public transportation system.

In the meantime, effective April 1, 2012, the Transport Authority has granted all existing public passenger vehicle/commercial carriers’ operators a FOUR (4) WEEK grace period to operate without being prosecuted. The Authority took the decision to grant the grace period based on numerous requests from operators for leniency in this regard.

The Transport Authority is therefore urging all public passenger vehicle/commercial carriers’ operators to ensure they meet the revised licensing deadline of April 30, 2012 as a zero tolerance approach will be adopted thereafter.
