Mona Post Office celebrate Senior Customers

Senior Citizens were singled out for special honour at the Mona Post Office as the Jamaica Postal Service observed World Post Day; an initiative of Ms. Cynthia Gooden and other staff members of the Mona Post Office.
The senior’s, customers of the Post Office were feted with delectable treats such as cake, chicken, patties and various beverages on Thursday, October 13, 2011. The occasion was an effort aimed at recognizing and enhancing socialization among the elderly.


 Dr. Chloe Morris, Acting Director of the Mona Aging and Wellness Centre in the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry, in bringing greetings to the senior citizens on behalf of Prof Denise Eldemire Shearer, (Head of the Department) said the celebrations coincided with the observance of National Senior Citizens Month. “We welcome any initiative that allows the senior citizens to socialize and also to be recognized.

 

They are a very important cornerstone of our society and we are happy when they are treated as such,” Dr. Morris said.
Mrs. Fletcher Brown, Senior Regional Inspector from the Central Sorting Office also brought greetings on behalf of the Postal Services. She said that the senior citizens, who frequently utilize the Post Offices to collect their pensions, and other convenient aspects of the Postal Services, are some of its most valuable customers.


The special guests were entertained, engaging in laughter and discussions among themselves. They also received bags of goodies: Brochures from the Mona Ageing and Wellness Centre about healthy living and how to access important services were also distributed.
The Mona Campus Credit Union, The University Bookshop, UWI Bursary, CARIMAC, CFNI, Juici Patties, Crazy Jim, Grace Kennedy, Jamaica Biscuit Company, National Bakery, were among the host of sponsors.
