Youth athlete Michael O’Hara is Digicel’s newest Brand Ambassador

Telecommunications company, Digicel has announced that youth athlete and Calabar student, Michael O’Hara has been signed as its newest athletics brand ambassador.
The announcement was officially made on the company’s Instagram page on Saturday, March 28, 2015, following O’Hara’s win in the 200M sprint at the National Stadium. In a matter of minutes, the announcement received hundreds of ‘likes’ with fans commending O’Hara on his achievements.

“We will continue to celebrate the achievements of our young athletes and help them to develop and grow into well-round athletes who keep can fling the Jamaica flag high on the world stage,” said Digicel’s Marketing Director, Peter Lloyd. “So we are very happy to welcome Michael O’Hara to the family of talented and rounded athletes like Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Alphanso Cunningham and Javon Francis.”

O’Hara in response said, “I’m very happy to be honest. I’m in final year at 6th form at Calabar and I’ve worked really hard over the years, so I happy that my hard work is paying off. So I’m very thankful to Digicel for helping to achieve my goals both on and off the track.”

The 19 year old track star will join the company’s twelve brand ambassadors, 4 of which are outstanding track and field athletes, including Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, Javon Francis and Alphanso Cunningham.

Michael O’Hara is an outstanding athlete in the 100M, 200M, 110M hurdles and the 4*100M relays. He was noted as one to watch by track and field enthusiast from an early age as he moved through class four to class one in the annual National Boys and Girls Championship, medaling in his pet events.

He cemented his prowess with his successes at the IAAF World Youth and Junior Championships in 2013 and 2014, where he placed 1st in the 200M with a time of 20.63 seconds and 3rd in the 200M with a time of 20.31 seconds.

Lloyd closed by saying, “Digicel has a very clear vision for athletics in Jamaica - it’s about investing, developing and sustaining athletics in Jamaica, starting from the grassroots level. We continue to do this through programmes like the Digicel/MVP Grassroots Athletics programme as well as our recently concluded Digicel Grand Prix.”
