Consumption Taxes due today

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) | 2015-03-31 00:00:00

Today is the due date for business operators to file their relevant Consumption Taxes for the month of February. General Consumption Tax (GCT), Guest Accommodation Room Tax (GART), Telephone Call Tax (TCT) and Special Consumption Tax (SCT), which are due monthly, have become easier to file and pay using the new Revenue Administration Information System (RAiS). Failure to file on or before the due date, whether online using RAiS or inline at any tax office by the March 31 deadline, will result in interest and penalty being applied.

Prior to the February 9, 2015 roll out of RAiS business operators were required to file the GART and TCT returns at a tax office. However for added convenience business persons can now file and pay all consumption taxes using the new system. Payments may be made using any major credit card and monthly returns filed online on the RAiS platform through the TAJ Portal   www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.  Additionally, persons with a BNS account may use the automated direct banking feature in RAiS, which allows payments via the banking system's Automated Clearing House (ACH) platform.

Taxpayers are reminded that revised GCT returns forms are in effect since January 1, 2015. These revised GCT forms, reflect recent legislative changes and are to be used when filing the returns due as of this date. The new system has been configured with the old and new forms, however persons filing their GCT Return manually are urged to ensure they use the version of the GCT form related to the particular period. The respective versions are available for download from the TAJ's website, for persons filing in office.

Just over 1,000 GCT returns have been filed through the RAiS web service, with several SCT, GART and TCT returns being recorded as filed via the new platform, since its rollout just over a month ago.  Hundreds of customers continue utilize the convenience of the system to query their accounts, update their profiles, grant third party access to their accountants, and make automated direct bank payments, among other activities.
